The surest thing in the NFL is that the media love to jump on bandwagons early. And then they get embarrassed soon after. They can’t remember more than one Sunday before what happened to make an informed decision.
Rex Grossman and the Bears were the greatest team early on, being compared to the ’85 Bears… that’s dead now, and how. Everyone’s calling for Grossman’s head.
The Broncos defense is the best ever! Oh, they hadn’t played a good team yet… oops.
The Colts? Undefeated? The Colts can’t stop the run at all and everyone’s hating on them for that now.
Then it was the Giants’ turn to be the best team in the NFL only to fall because Eli sucks.
Well, they then moved to the Chargers whom are still going… for now.
But ahead of the Chargers it was the mighty Superbowl Champion Cowboys. Why play the Superbowl when we could give the Cowboys the trophy now? That’s why the Sunday nighter proved once again that nothing is sure in football, and also that the sports media are retarded (all media actually). The Romo Empire came crashing down against the Drew Brees led Saints, and embarrassingly so.
Chargers: Superbowl Champions. No need for a game. Right?
There’s way too much anointing oil in the media nowadays. Just so one writer can be right one time after being wrong a hundred times and rub everyone’s face in it… what’s the point? At least I’m right all the time. Thanks to the Saints… they’ve shut up the media once again.
Mike Vick is great! Mike Vick is bad! Mike Vick is MVP after two good games! Mike Vick is the worst QB ever after 4 losses! Mike Vick is God after two straight wins! And that’s the 2006 NFL season in a nut shell looking at the player heralded as the best thing to enter football a few years ago. Started with undue hype… and ends in up and down, inconsistent play for the rest of his career. As the French say: That’s life.
No Huddle
Vick does nothing… so everyone will say he deserves an MVP because the Falcons won. Hooray.
Saban and the Dolphins keep winning when it doesn’t matter. Why was Taylor sleeping the first half of the season?
Maurice Jones-Drew is scarily tough to tackle. Especially against a team like the Colts who don’t know how to tackle to begin with. He’s my rookie of the year so far. There’s never any fire in the Colts’ players which is a perfect reflection of their coach, Tony Dungy.
Jeff Garcia to the playoffs!!!
I still don’t have a real job. Someone please pay me to write this crap. Please.
Plaxico Burress, Shockey and Giants are always upset at Eli. I guess they know that it’s Plaxico’s acrobatic catches that make Eli’s errant passes look decent sometimes.
Shockey needs a pacifier and a bib. He’s a baby no matter how tough he wants people to think he is. Way too many tantrums thrown by this big baby girl.
On Wednesday December 20th 2006 I will be watching Rocky Balboa even though the previews look horrible. Ahhh, life’s guilty pleasures.
The worst team in the AFC East is at 6-7. Best division in football.
It seems like a lifetime ago since the awesome Broncos D were holding all their opponents to no TDs. Too bad they started playing good teams.
God Bless Marty and the Fumblerooskie call. God Bless each and everyone on that team. Thanks for an early Christmas gift.
Leinart looks great and the Seahawks can’t run at all. Shaun Alexander looks terrible this year. It’s a good thing they’re in the pathetic NFC West.
I’ve always loved the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders and their uniforms. By far the best in the league. Always have been.
Drew Brees. Boilermaker.
That had to be the best introduction I’ve ever seen a player do before a game. And then to follow it up with nearly 400 yards passing and 5 TDs was masterful. Drew Brees is making it very hard to decide the MVP this year, which would be a runaway for LT without Brees’ voodoo in New Orleans. I’m a believer in the Saints as a good team this year, even though their defense isn’t all that good. Sean Payton is easily the coach of the year. Reggie Bush is a good compliment to Deuce’s running game, and is being used perfectly by Payton: sparingly and out in space. Any other usage and he wouldn’t be as good.
As for the amazing Cowboys… they got soundly trounced, despite being the best team in football and surefire Superbowl winners… Romo had another bad game and got a gift by throwing that TD pass to Owens that should have been intercepted. There were a few more missed interceptions that Romo got away with too during this game. I thought he was going to be the MVP and then be elected President? What happened? Everyone was sure of this! Now I don’t know what and who to believe anymore! Whoa is me.
What a fantastic 15 yard penalty call on Parcells for throwing the replay flag deep inside 2 minutes. Coaches know, and Parcells does for sure that he’s not allowed to challenge a call at that time. I hate it when coaches throw the flag when a challenge can’t be made during regular time too. They should be charged a time out. They’ve had enough time to figure out what’s challengeable and what isn’t. They waste time by doing this and it would be a good deterrent to charge them a time out when the call isn’t challengeable or force them to make some challenge on the call (which won’t be overturned). I really hope this is instituted next year.
Teams running up to get a quick play off within two minutes to stop a booth review is pointless. As soon as the booth sees this happen, they’ll review it no matter what.
Bush holds the ball too loosely when he runs, someone needs to correct that fast before it costs them a great run.
I loved the onside kick call by Peyton. And what a great kick and recovery. Seemed too easy. Whichever coach noticed that and pointed it out is a genius. And Peyton is gutsy for calling it even with a nice lead. It was probably decided before the game to do attempt it because of something they saw while scouting the Cowboys. But maybe it should have been kept secret for a possible meeting in the playoffs? Did the Saints show the Cowboys too much? That’s thinking way too far ahead, so good call.
Mail Bag
Dear Football Enginerd, I mean Engineer sorry, I noticed you're quite
upset about the BCS championship game as am I, are you a Michigan fan by
any chance? I find that the most interesting BCS bowl game is the Rose
Bowl between Michigan and USC. I don't aggree with your bashing of Jim
Tressel, maybe he doesn't feel like he should be voting for his
opponent, maybe as a rule he never takes part in the voting, who knows,
maybe do more research on that. Besides, he shouldn't really care who
he plays, no matter what he has to win to be the champ. Oh and what's
up with the Merriman bashing now, you used to be pro Merriman, picking
him as the top defensive player all the time, and even after the news of
his "accidental" steroid use. As for Losman, is he really growing and
improving, his stats look alright cause he throws the deep ball to Lee
Evans all the time, Evans has 43% of the team's catches, is Losman
really the long term answer, don't you think the Bills should try to
draft someone or get a Matt Schaub for example, someone who can actually
distribute the ball to all his receivers, and it's b.s to say that the
bills have no one else, a good qb will always find receivers to throw
to. One more thing I disagree with is Vanderjagt, I heard Vanderjagt
never showed up to practice and didn't seem to care much, I think
Parcells got sick of his attitude and made an example of him, you must
think he's just a kicker and has one job to do, but still Parcells is
anal like that, and besides Grammatica made the field goals, by the way
did you notice he started celebrating like crazy as always and his
teammate kinda slowed him down, I can't wait to see him getting injured
with his stupid celebrations.
OSU RULES!
Hey OSU RULES!, I’m not a fan of any team when I write for FBEng.net. I can’t be biased in any way and I’m proud to say I practice that fully in my writings. I stick by my Tressel comments because it was a gutless thing to do as you point out it doesn’t matter who he plays, so why was he afraid to vote? He always participates in voting, as was widely reported. Maybe you should do some research before writing to me.
As for Merriman, I gave him the benefit of the doubt at first, but then after he voluntarily left and stopped saying it was an ‘accident’, it’s obvious he’s a cheat. How sad.
Losman doesn’t just bomb it to Evans, although he is good at that. He passes to Reed and even Price. Evans is the best player on the team and should see most of the balls come his way though. Is Losman the long term answer? I’m not too sure of that yet. But he has earned a shot at being at continued development for at least one more year.
Parcells only got rid of Vandy because that’s what Parcells does; he cuts kickers because he hates them. And so far Gramatica has missed two FGs in two games…
Offensive Player of the Week: Drew Brees for his 5 TDs and beating the ‘Boys in Dallas.
Defensive Player of the Week: Aaron Schobel, DE of the Bills for his 3 sack performance in the domination of Pennington’s Jets.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Maurice Jones-Drew, following a great day on offense with a return for a TD. All this as a rookie. The rookie of the year probably.
Joe Theismann Award of the Week: Troy Aikman for constantly giving excuses for shit QBs like Eli Manning when the only excuse is that they suck.
Pet Peeve of the Week: Terrell Owens.
