Monday Morning QB
By Christopher Kay

Week 1 of the NFL season has come and gone. So what have we learned? Quite a bit actually. Here’s a quick run through of observation from week 1.

No Huddle
Culpepper needs to improve drastically to make the Dolphins contenders. He looked horrible against the Steelers and was off target on a number of occasions, most notably the passes intended for Chambers, who should be his best receiver.

McNabb and the Eagles look like the team of old that dominated the NFC. Of course they played the lowly Texans… so not too much can be read into it. But it should nevertheless be a confidence booster for Andy Reid’s boys.

The Bills outcoached and outplayed the Pats for most of the game, but unfortunately the Bills find ways to lose games. Losman was very impressive and had no chance of avoiding that late game safety and should not be blamed whatsoever. A few retarded analysts have blasted him for not knowing where he was (he did know) but they fail to realize there was a guy in his face instantly. The problem is that the Bills should have run on first down in that series. This game (and hopefully not the Bills’ whole season) turned on one play… the 4th and 1 that the Bills couldn’t convert. Everyone must have known on that play that the Bills were toast.

The Seahawks better get their act together after narrowly escaping with a win over the Lions. Yes, the Lions are supposed to be a better team this year… but it’s their offense that people thought would be very much improved… not necessarily the defense that held the defending NFC Champs to only 9 points.

Not so easy to get 2000 yards is it Larry Johnson? The Chiefs offense might not be able to scare anyone this season.

Jake Plummer has reverted to his interception prone self of old. Will the Jay Cutler era in Denver begin much earlier than expected?

Chad Pennington has always been good. The only problem is, he can’t stay healthy long enough to give the Jets a chance to have a good season. He’ll get injured again soon I imagine. Oh, and the Titans really really really suck.

The Cowboys got beat up by the Jags and Bledsoe’s performance was very poor. The countdown to Owens’ blow up has begun. Superbowl team my ass. They won’t even win their division.

Big bro Peyton put little bro Eli in his place. At first Eli looked horrendous, but he soon settled down and played well. Everyone’s beloved Shockey made a bonehead move by not going out of bounds late in the game. But no one’s ever going to defend Shockey’s intelligence.

NBC’s music when they go to commercial reminds me of the recent Star Wars movies and I really really hate it. I also can’t stand the Fox robots that move around. I miss old school football programming.

The TD celebrations were sorely missed. Let the players have some sort of creativity out there please. But I doubt the rule will ever be reversed now that it’s in place.

Mail Bag
No mail this week because YOU ARE ALL LAZY!

Offensive Player of the Week:  Donovan McNabb. Now that he’s healthy, he’s ready to show what he can do without Owens. Much like he did for the majority of his career.

Defensive Player of the Week:  John Abraham terrorized Delhomme and the Panthers.

Special Teams Player of the Week:  Jeff Wilkins broke a Rams record with most FG’s in a game.

Joe Theismann Award of the Week:  John Madden for once again stating the painfully obvious: “The toughest position in football to play: Quarterback”.  The majority of your viewers aren’t beginners at watching football you dumb bastard. Sadly, he isn’t dumbing it down because he thinks his viewers are stupid… it’s dumbed down because he’s stupid.

Pet Peeve of the Week:   Football commentators. They’re all so damn stupid it hurts.

Top Ten:
1. Indianapolis Colts
2. Chicago Bears
3. Cincinnati Bengals
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
5. Seattle Seahawks
6. San Diego Chargers
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. Baltimore Ravens
9. Jacksonville Jaguars
10. Atlanta Falcons
