Old Blue's Weekly Picks
I’d like to start off by saying GO BUCKEYES, this Saturday the Ohio State Buckeyes will play the Michigan Wolverines, and what looks to be the game of the century, not only are these two teams great rivals, probably the greatest rivalry in college football, but they’re also #1 and #2 in the country, I can’t contain my excitement about this game. I predict Troy Smith and Buckeyes will win a very close and hard fought game, where Michigan’s defense is going to come up big and make it very difficult for Smith, but somehow he will overcome.
Last Week (vs. Spread): 8-8 (8-8)
Overall (vs. Spread): 77-53 (56-74)
Week #11
Sunday
St. Louis Rams at
Carolina Panthers (-7.5)
The Rams couldn’t beat a depleted Seattle team so they won’t be able to beat a Panthers team with most of its key players healthy. Julius Peppers is going to have another big game making a few key plays, possibly getting a defensive TD and Steve Smith is gonna run away with at least a TD himself.
Panthers over Rams 27-24
Cincinnati Bengals at
New Orleans Saints (-4.5)
That was a tough loss for the Bengals; can they beat the Saints this week? I’ve been pulling for the Bengals all year, I love the team, but last week’s loss did it for me. I see them losing another close one in New Orleans this weekend.
Saints over Bengals 35-33
Washington Redskins at
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5)
This is going to be a defensive struggle, with 2 unproven QBs it won’t be a fun game to watch that’s for sure. The Redskins are without Portis for the rest of the season, I look to them to struggle mightily.
Buccaneers over Redskins 17-13
New England Patriots at
Green Bay Packers (+6.5)
The Pats will recover from their 2 game skid by winning in Lambeau field, the conditions will be rough in mid November, but the Pats are used to these kinds of conditions. Tom Brady has a big game and leads the Pats to victory.
Patriots over Packers 24-17
Indianapolis Colts at
Dallas Cowboys (+1.5)
The Colts keep on rolling; notice how I predicted them to go undefeated for the season? I get the feeling that Peyton wants this badly and will get it done. Last year they got distracted, this year there’s nothing stopping them, they’re defense is getting healthy again and will be able to make big plays.
Colts over Cowboys 30-20
Tennessee Titans at
Philadelphia Eagles (-12.5)
The Eagles keep on rolling towards a playoff birth, they’re a very good team that has gotten unlucky a few times, they could easily be 7-2, now they’re well rested and McNabb seems very determined this year.
Eagles over Titans 27-13
Buffalo Bills at
Houston Texans (-2.5)
Both these teams are playing pretty well; the Bills almost beat the undefeated Colts in Indy! But they keep making costly mistakes, like missing field goals; the Texans are also playing some good ball. I like David Carr and the Texans in this one since it’s in Houston.
Texans over Bills 17-15
Oakland Raiders at
Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5)
The Chiefs have been playing pretty well and could go to the playoffs, Trent Green is back, is he gonna be as good as Huard, will there be a QB controversy? The Raiders D is surprisingly good, too bad their offense stinks!
Chiefs over Raiders 20-7
Pittsburgh Steelers at
Cleveland Browns (+4.5)
Do the Steelers still have a chance to make the playoffs? I don’t think so, and I think the Browns will surprise them this week. The Browns are starting to look pretty good, and I expect them to have a strong finish to the season.
Browns over Steelers 20-17
Minnesota Vikings at
Miami Dolphins (-3.5)
Will the Dolphins be able to win 3 in a row? With Harrington as their QB, I really doubt it. I think the Dolphins will come back to earth this week, and the Vikings will finally get a win.
Vikings over Dolphins 17-12
Atlanta Falcons at
Baltimore Ravens (-4.5)
McNair had a great week last week, he’s on a roll and he’s gonna continue this week against the Falcons. It’s gonna be the McNair vs. Vick show and the veteran McNair will show Vick how it’s done.
Ravens over Falcons 27-21
Chicago Bears at
New York Jets (+7.5)
I love the Jets, they just play with heart and they will give the Bears a good fight, making it a close game, but in the end the Bears will win.
Bears over Jets 21-17
Seattle Seahawks at
San Francisco 49ers (+6.5)
The Seahawks have come up with 2 straight wins, showing that they can do it without their 2 offensive stars (Hasselbeck and Alexander) and they’re gonna continue winning this week against the Niners.
Seahawks over 49ers 30-28
Detroit Lions at
Arizona Cardinals (-2.5)
I agree with Christopher Kay on this one, the Cards are pathetic, they’re uninspired, I see the Lions bouncing back this week with big offensive games from their big 3.
Lions over Cardinals 30-20
San Diego Chargers at
Denver Broncos (-3.5)
Gotta love the San Diego Super Chargers they played a great game last week against a team that was desperate to win. LT seems unstoppable this year, he is by far the best player in football right now. The only advantage the Broncos have this week is that they’re at Denver, and the altitude might have a say in this one, I’ll give the edge to the Broncos this week, but in a couple of weeks the Chargers are gonna spank them in San Diego.
Broncos over Chargers 24-21
Monday
New York Giants at
Jacksonville Jaguars (-2.5)
I predict the Giants will suffer another blow this week, they have a lot of key injuries at the moment, and Eli Manning simply isn’t that good, I was just looking at his stats this year, Phillip Rivers is having a better season, so much for all that hype he was getting early in the season. Tiki Barber is going to have a great game, as he usually does, I love that guy, but his efforts simply won’t be enough for the G-men.
Jaguars over Giants 24-17
